The Vermont Senior Games is pleased to announce that our 2021 Pickleball tournament will be held at the new courts at Airport Park in Colchester on August 27-29.
We are excited to have the opportunity to stage our event at this prime facility. Airport Park features four new pickleball-specific courts, and two tennis courts with lines that we will be utilizing as well. The VSG has also reserved court time at Leddy Park in Burlington to handle overflow for the weekend if necessary.
Registration will open for Vermont players on April 1, 2021, and out-of-state players can start signing up on May 1st.
It’s important for players to note that the National Senior Games scheduled to take place in November 2021 have now been moved to May 2022 – and state 2021 events are once again qualifiers for that event. Thus, players have one more opportunity to advance to Nationals with success at the state level.
In addition, the National Senior Games have announced that, going forward, their Pickleball tournament will be organized on a skill-level basis. For the 2022 Nationals, they are planning on three skill levels for each 5-year age group. We at the Vermont Senior Games are working on implementing a similar system, likely to feature two skill levels per age group to start. Players will be asked to indicate their skill levels during registration. The VSG is planning to host a skill level clinic for players before this event to help individuals without a rating to at least get an estimate of their status. For the August tournament, the Vermont Senior Games foresees organizing play in the same way as last year. That would call for the Singles on Friday August 27. The Mixed Doubles would follow on Saturday August 28, and the gender Doubles would wrap things up on Sunday August 29.
