The Central Vermont Runners organization has informed us that the Capital City Stampede, our 10 K road race planned for June 6, 2020, will not take place as scheduled due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
The city of Montpelier is cancelling permits for large gatherings until mid-June at the earliest.
At present, the CVR are not certain whether the race will be merely postponed to a later date, or completely cancelled. The group will be meeting within the next few weeks to discuss the future of the event.
Our hope at the Vermont Senior Games is to continue to work with the Central Vermont Runners to stage the race later in the summer or fall. But failing that, the VSG is committed to providing our athletes with the opportunity to compete and qualify for the 2021 Nationals in Fort Lauderdale. We will partner with another race if that is necessary.
The folks at the National Senior Games organization are currently assessing options for the states, and we anticipate some degree of flexibility since we are all facing the same pressures – and Nationals next year won’t be held until November.
Thank you for your understanding, we will get through this. Stay safe and healthy!
