Vermont Joins Maine for Cycling Championship

Perfect weather and a scenic course combined to make for a great day of cycling. On Sunday September 16th VSGA joined forces with Maine Senior Games to hold the 2018 Cycling Championships. Thirteen Vermonters made the trek over to Kennebunkport, Maine for a full day of great biking. Andre Sturm of Essex Junction was first overall in the 20K Road Race and the 5K Time Trial, easily claiming the Gold in the M55-59 age group. Dee Barbic of Hinesburg was the first woman overall in the 40K Road Race and fellow Vermonter Pat Driscoll of Stowe was first in the W60-64 age group of the 40K.

VSGA extends sincere thanks to Jo Dill, the dedicated Director of the Maine Senior Games and her fabulous crew of volunteers and thanks also to the great folks at the Kennebunkport Bicycle Company for serving as the home base for the day. Special thanks to Laurie Cote and Rik Barron who not only competed but also volunteered to help make the day a success. All the Vermont cyclists agreed that it was a great location and well worth the drive. You can see the Vermonter’s results here. Complete results and more photos will be available soon on the Maine Senior Games website. You can also see more photos on the VSGA Facebook page.
