The 2020 Vermont Senior Games Tennis Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 & 23, 2020 at The Burlington Tennis Club. BTC is located at 12 1/2 East Terrace in South Burlington, Vermont, a hard right-hand turn off of the traffic circle by UVM. Due to COVID-19 concerns, in the event of rain the event will be cancelled, and athletes will be given full refunds.
The competition is open to anyone at least 50 years old by 12/31/2020.
For this year only, participation is limited to Vermont residents.
Singles will begin at 12 Noon 8/22 – Doubles will begin at 10 AM on 8/23. Check-in required at least 30 minutes before start of event.
Advance registration is required by Friday, August 14th. There will be no on-site registration. Note that the Burlington Tennis Club and the Vermont Senior Games will be adhering to USTA COVID-19 guidelines. Players are reminded to bring two or three new, unopened cans of balls for match(es). In light of COVID-19 limitations, the VSGA will be unable to provide food for athletes at this event, so players should be prepared to bring along whatever they might need for the day.
The tournament format will be determined by the number of participants registered. Doubles competitive age will be that of the younger partner. Medals will be awarded to the first 3 places, in 5-year age brackets for men and women. NSGA and USTA rules will apply. The Burlington Tennis Club has clay courts. This event is sponsored by USTA Vermont.
Please note that 2020 is a qualifying year for the 2021 National Senior Games, scheduled to be held in November in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. All athletes finishing in the top FOUR in their age group in this tournament will qualify for the 2021 Nationals. In addition, in consideration of COVID-19, the National Senior Games has decided that any athlete who qualified for the 2019 Nationals in Albuquerque is also eligible for the 2021 competition, regardless of whether the athlete went to the 2019 National games.
