VSGA Basketball Update
The 2020 Vermont Senior Games Basketball tournament at Castleton University has been cancelled. Castleton University is still not certain how it is going to re-open in the fall. Permission to use the facility or rely upon Castleton students as volunteers is no longer feasible for this year. Basketball was specifically identified on Governor Phil Scott’s recent (June 8, 2020) list of competitive sports that are still prohibited. In our 2019 basketball tournament, approximately half of the players came from out of state, which is problematic according to current guidelines. Any Vermont athlete who qualified for Nationals in 2016 or 2018 is now eligible to compete in the National Senior Games National competition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in November 2021.
