The first day of competition is in the books at the 2019 National Senior Games in Albuquerque, NM. Vermonters were in action in cycling and tennis today.
John Bertelsen was the fastest Vermonter in the cycling 5 km time trials in Albuquerque, NM Saturday. His time of 6:59.9 placed him 17th in the Men’s 70 – 74 age group. Laurie Cote was the fastest woman from Vermont with a 16th place finish in the Women’s 55 – 59 division with a time of 9:24.9. Brain Conchieri finished in 7:02.6 for 21st in the Men’s 60 – 64 age group as the second fastest competitor from Vermont. Other Vermonters participating in the event were Andre Sturm, 15th in the Men’s 55 – 59 division in 7:08.5; Lawrence Myer, 27th in the Men’s 70 – 74 division in 7:24.0; Woodie Clifton, 35th in the Men’s 65 – 69 division in 7:29.6.
Competition also kicked off in the 70+ divisions in tennis for men’s singles, women’s singles and women’s doubles. Richard Theken, Rich Blackstock, Allyson Bolduc, Sherwood Daniels, and Kathy Yost were scheduled to compete. As of this writing results were not available on the NSG site.
Tomorrow competition kicks off in the pool and on the track. Swimmers will contest the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley. On the track the events on the schedule are the 1500 meter finals, 400 meter prelims, 50 meter prelims, discus for men over 75 and long jump for women.
