2018 Season Wraps Up With Table Tennis

The final event of the 2018 VSGA season moved indoors on a blustery fall day but was no less athletic than other sports. Twenty-two, highly competitive Table Tennis players, including three women, took to the green tables at the Shelburne Town Gym in pursuit of that lively and elusive white ball. VSGA is deeply grateful to Bruce Kline and John Bolton of the Champlain Valley Table Tennis Club for their volunteer work organizing the Tournament as well a competing.

The Tournament was a big round robin format giving everyone lots of play time. Because this is a qualifying year for the 2019 National Senior Games, NSG Table Tennis rules require that players without competition in their age group play “exhibition” matches in order to qualify. You will see this noted in the results.

The players ranged in age from the requisite minimum of 50 through 91 year-old Frank Grimaldi who was visiting from Massachusetts. We also had another visitor – all the way from Big Sky country, Montana. Dave Rickert grew up in Vermont and made a fall weekend of his trip to with family members.

As always, the competition was fierce but also fun with lots of good humor and sportsmanship. Congratulations to everyone who participated and thanks for wrapping up the 2018 season in fine style.
