Today Vermont’s Margaret Nickerson added silver medals in the 200 yard backstroke and 50 yard freestyle to her bronze in the 100 yard backstroke Monday to bring her (and Vermont’s) medal total to 3 at the National Games swimming competition in Birmingham, Alabama. Ann Aceves of New Mexico lead the way in the 200 backstroke with a time of 4:41.24 and Nickerson was close behind in 4:48.64. Nickerson swam the 50 yard freestyle in 48.01 seconds to finish in the runner up spot Carol Mungavin of Texas who finished in 45.32.
It appears I overlooked some results from cycling in yesterday’s report. In the 10 km time trials held Monday at Oak Mountain State Park in Birmingham, Brian Conchieri of Essex led the charge for Vermont finishing seventh of twenty-three in the Men’s 60-64 division in a time of 17:13. Andre Sturm of Essex Junction was seventeenth of thirty-four in the Men’s 55-59 division with a time of 17:59. Today’s 5 km time trail competition has been postponed until tomorrow.
